12-Year-Old Arkansas Driver Continues Rapid Development in Just His Second Outing Behind the Wheel of an A-Mod

AMARILLO, Texas — At just 12 years old, Bronson Hawkins continues to take on challenges well beyond his years, and his latest test may have been one of the biggest yet.

The Rogers, Arkansas, driver traveled to Route 66 Motor Speedway for two nights of competition alongside some of the best dirt modified racers in the country as part of a United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event.

Making the challenge even more impressive, it was only Hawkins' second time behind the wheel of an A-Mod.

Hawkins finished eighth in his heat race before moving into B-Main competition. During the B-Main, contact with another competitor resulted in Hawkins being sent to the rear of the field, forcing the young driver to regroup and continue battling against a field filled with considerably more experience.

He ultimately finished eighth in the B-Main, but the results sheet tells only a small part of the story.

For Hawkins, the weekend was about gaining valuable seat time, learning how the car reacts in changing track conditions and experiencing firsthand the pace, racecraft and intensity required to compete against some of the most accomplished dirt modified racers in the country.

"Putting a 12-year-old into an A-Mod for only the second time is already a big step," said Rod Wortham of Race Face Brand Development. "Doing it at a USMTS event against drivers with years of experience at this level takes that challenge to an entirely different place. Bronson went there to learn, compete and gain experience, and that's exactly what he accomplished. Weekends like this can accelerate a young driver's development tremendously."

Hawkins has continued to build his racing résumé by competing in different cars and against increasingly stronger competition. Rather than measuring progress solely by finishing position, each new challenge provides another opportunity to develop his car control, adaptability and understanding of what it takes to compete at higher levels of the sport.

At an age when many young racers are still taking their first steps through the developmental ladder, Hawkins is already gaining experience that could prove invaluable as his career progresses.

Two nights against the best in USMTS competition provided another major step in that education.

And for a 12-year-old making only his second appearance in an A-Mod, simply being willing to take on that challenge says plenty about where Bronson Hawkins wants to go.
